21st Anniversary Season Begins

Welcome to our 21st anniversary season. We took a lot of chances in our 20th year and it paid off making it one of our most successful seasons ever. We want to follow it up with another adventurous and ambitious season for our patrons. After all, this is your Shakespeare company.

We start it all off by reviving one of the major hits from last season, the political thriller Equivocation. Many patrons saw this production multiple times while others missed it altogether. Now is your chance to see it again or for the first time. As a Special Event, nationally-acclaimed solo artist Charlie Bethel will be back again performing his thrilling version of The Odyssey as well as his acclaimed version of Beowulf. Next up is one of Shakespeare’s most underrated but best plays, the rarely-performed but brilliant King John, which we are producing for the first time. Another Special Event will be our production of the holiday favorite A Christmas Carol which returns, just after Thanksgiving, to the Playhouse on the Park in downtown Phoenix. This touching, musical holiday production continues to evolve and become bigger and more stunning each year. “Winterfest” is back again offering two of Shakespeare’s finest, King Lear and As You Like It, in rotating repertory. In the spring, we will present Annie Baker’s (Mirror, Circle, Transformation) exciting new translation and adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya that brings new intimacy to this funny and touching story of human yearning. Lastly, we will present as a Special Event, and returning to the Desert Botanical Garden, the world premiere of a new musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s fairy tale Cymbeline. With music by internationally known composer Shishir Krudup and the book by our beloved Michael Flachmann, this world premiere will be a landmark for our company.

I know you will want to see every one of these productions as we build on the success of our 20th season. Again, most importantly, I want to thank you, dearest friends, for supporting Arizona’s one and only professional classical theatre!
