Thanks to the generous contributions of businesses and individuals, we offer classical theatre to student groups at discounted rates. Students see full-length performances and all seating is reserved. A comprehensive Teacher Guide, meeting Arizona State Standards, is also provided.
Student Matinees begin at 10 am, but please plan on arriving by 9:40 am so we can get all of our groups seated and start the show on time. The show ends by 12:30pm. Water and snacks are sold during the intermission. Weekend matinees are available for most shows. SSC has introduced more than 147,000 Arizona students to live classical theatre. Students attend from as far away as Yuma, Snowflake, Lake Havasu City, as well as all parts of the Valley.
Talkbacks are an amazing addition for your students and are now free for your entire group. It is included in the price of your ticket for every Student Matinee. Talkbacks allow students to question the actors about any topic in an open forum and to connect the preparation the actors did with the final product of the show with your curriculum and educational preparation. Plan to stay an extra 20 minutes.
Student groups can also attend regular evening or weekend matinee performances. These prices vary depending on the theater and time. Make checks payable to Southwest Shakespeare Company, PO Box 30595, Mesa, AZ 85275. Major credit cards are also accepted. If you have any questions about the student matinees or student group tickets, please contact Susan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Educational Extras: Backstage Tours
Backstage Tours following our student matinees give a truly unique perspective and highlight technical aspects of how our shows work. Backstage Tours are $25 per group of 20 people where cast or crew members lead students through the backstage areas to offer technical insight and highlight unique production pieces. You can add a backstage tour to your matinee order.
If you’ve already reserved your student matinee seats or to send a request to add this fabulous additional educational offering, please contact Susan at email@example.com.
