Student Matinees

Give Your Students the Magic of Live Theatre!

Thanks to the generous contributions of businesses and individuals, we offer classical theatre to student groups at discounted rates. Through this program, Southwest Shakespeare Company has introduced more than 147,000 students from all over the state of Arizona to live theater.

Included with the Student Matinee:

  • Students see full-length performances in fully-reserved seating at the Mesa Arts Center.
  • A comprehensive Teacher Guide to the play (complies with Arizona State Standards)
  • Free talkbacks with the cast and crew after the performance

Student Matinees begin at 10 am, but please plan on arriving by 9:40 am, in order to ensure timely seating and a punctual start-time. The show ends by 12:30pm. Water and snacks are sold during the intermission.

Student groups can also attend regular evening or weekend matinee performances. These prices vary depending on the theater and time.

Checks are preferable and should be made payable to Southwest Shakespeare Company, PO Box 30595, Mesa, AZ 85275. Major credit cards are also accepted. Full payment is expected BEFORE attendance. If you have any questions about the student matinees or student group tickets, please contact Susan Freestone at discover@swshakespeare.org.

Educational Extras: Backstage Tours

Backstage Tours offer a unique technical perspective of how our shows work. After the student matinees, cast and crew members lead students through the backstage areas to experience what it takes behind the curtain to execute a production. Backstage tours cost $25 for groups of 20.

If you’ve already reserved your student matinee seats or to send a request to add a backstage tour, please contact Susan Freestone at discover@swshakespeare.org.
