ACTING WORKSHOP

Presented by Southwest Shakespeare Company in partnership with Mesa Arts Center

This workshop for Emerging and Professional Artists is led by Southwest Shakespeare Company 2022 Artist-in-Residence, TREZANA BEVERLEY.

Actors explore the opportunity to immerse themselves in Shakespeare and Contemporary text four days a week for three weeks at the end of our spring season. The late spring intensive is geared towards both beginner and advanced actors, but it is open to a wide-ranging audience of theatre performers and practitioners.

Winner of the distinguished Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway show for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf, Trezana Beverley has since created a unique signature in the American Theater as a director, singer, writer and acting teacher. Ms. Beverley has performed extensively in Regional and New York Theater. Highlights of her distinguished acting career include: Mother CourageA Raisin In The SunFlyin’ WestPeer GyntMacbethMedea, and King Lear (as a man). In film: Beloved, Resurrection, Carolina Skeletons, and Sister Margaret and the Saturday Night Ladies. Her music talents are currently displayed in her one-woman show Mabel Madness about the famous chanteuse, Mabel Mercer.

Ms. Beverley has taught at The Juilliard School in New York City and is currently on the faculty of The State University of New York at Purchase where she teaches Acting.
